Summer Solstice Þakgil Elopement
Lady May and Derek's Adventure from Thakgil to Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
Lady May and Derek traveled from Canada to Iceland to celebrate their wedding in one of the most unique locations on Earth. As an Iceland wedding videographer, I had the honor of capturing their elopement set against the incredible landscapes of Þakgil and the Icelandic highlands.
Their day began in a stunning panorama glass house, where they got ready while taking in breathtaking views. After sharing a heartfelt first touch outside their cabin, they embarked on a journey to Þakgil, a secluded valley near Katla Geopark that feels like a world of its own. With vibrant green moss covering newly formed mountains, it was the perfect backdrop for an intimate elopement.
Derek saw Lady May in her wedding dress for the first time as she walked through the campsite-turned-wedding-aisle, leading to a private and emotional vow exchange in what truly felt like the middle of nowhere. After their personal vows, the officiant joined them, making their marriage official.
To celebrate, they enjoyed a picnic in the highlands, popping champagne in the heart of Iceland's untouched nature. But their adventure didn't stop there! Since Iceland experiences 24 hours of daylight during the summer solstice, we took full advantage of the midnight sun. Just after midnight, we visited Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, where the usual crowds had vanished, leaving us with an ethereal, empty shoreline for their wedding portraits.
Finally, to end their unforgettable wedding day, they cut their cake in front of the mighty Skogafoss Waterfall, with the midnight sun casting a golden glow over the scene.
If you're dreaming of an Iceland elopement filled with adventure, remote landscapes, and the magic of the midnight sun, this is the wedding film you don’t want to miss! As an Iceland wedding videographer, I’m here to capture every breathtaking moment of your special day in this incredible country.
